In-Kind Donations

Habitat DC-NOVA works with public, private, nonprofit, and foundation partners to help local families realize the dream of homeownership, providing a pathway to intergenerational wealth and strong, diverse communities. Our partners donate their time, treasure, materials, and expertise to support local families. There’s more than one way for you, your organization, or your business to make a gift-in-kind. All contributions, including gifts of materials, are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

If you’re interested in supporting us with goods or services but aren’t sure how you can help, we are happy to chat with you about it. Please get in touch with our volunteer team at volunteer@habitatdcnova.org.

What are in-kind donations?

In-kind donations are gifts of goods, materials, or services that help Habitat DC-NOVA to build homes and communities in our region. Some examples include:

  • A donation of land on which Habitat DC-NOVA can build a home
  • A donation of a home that Habitat DC-NOVA can renovate
  • A donation of building materials, like lumber, siding, appliances, or tools that Habitat DC-NOVA would have otherwise had to pay for
  • An electrician who donates their time to help install wiring on a home

Donate Professional Services

Donate professional services or specialty subcontracting services. The generosity of architects, engineers, planners, contractors, and suppliers helps reduce our development costs, which means lower mortgage payments for our first-time, low to moderate-income home buyers. We also accept non-construction-related support like photography and videography, and more.

Donate Property

Obtaining property/land in our area is expensive, often one-third to one-half the total development costs for our homes. By donating land or property, you help a hardworking Habitat DC-NOVA family build strength, stability, and security through affordable home ownership.

Donate Construction Materials

Donations of building materials, equipment, tools, and services help keep our construction costs low so Habitat Habitat DC-NOVA families can purchase lasting, affordable homes.

We also accept donations of construction materials, tools, furniture, appliances, and home goods at our ReStores. We often work with businesses such as hotels, construction companies, and furniture stores to help remove items that are no longer needed and to reduce the environment impact to sending items to a landfill.

Individuals can donate items we need for construction, too. It’s easy—simply browse our Amazon Wishlist. After you make a purchase through Amazon from the list, they will ship the item(s) directly to us.
